Being photographed by a professional wedding photographer may seem like a daunting event, but hopefully, this set of engagement session tips will help you to you feel comfortable and arrive ready to get some great shots with your fiancé.
Him and Her Wedding Photography wants everyone to feel excited about their engagement session photos!
Probably about the most important part of your shoot will be the location you choose. If you guys have a spot that’s significant to both of you, whether it be where you met or where he proposed, or a place that you frequent together, that can be a great choice for your engagement session. Multiple locations is also a common request, though I would recommend keeping it simple and/or close together.
What to Wear!
How your clothes look and fit are pretty important to both reflecting your personality and being comfortable.
Wear something that helps enhance your best features! The focus should be on you, so you don’t want to wear anything that is too distracting.
Make this photoshoot special! You want to feel comfortable, so choose an outfit that fits your personality.
Spice it up! These professional photos may very well be the last before your wedding day, so make them count by wearing statement pieces or sentimental accessories.
It is also important to coordinate so that either you’re both in more casual clothes or both dressy.
Keep in mind that some locations can be very crowded on the weekends so if you have flexibility, consider having your engagement session midweek to avoid crowds at places like High Park in Toronto, Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, or other parks around GTA area that can be busy during the weekend. Regarding lighting, the best time of day for the shoot is typically close to sunrise or close to sunset.
Trust Your Photographer
You might start out your shoot feeling a little awkward, and that’s normal. But! If you have the right photographer, you’ll be a natural in no time. I want to capture the interaction between the two of you – the natural personalities, the love, the laughter, the romance and the silliness. I would much rather capture a picture that looks real, than one which is posed and fake. So don’t worry about me – I am there to photograph the moments between the two of you.
Your engagement session should be fun! Remember these are the photos that announce to the world that you’re getting married.
